Why Take LipiTrim Ultra? - The Science Behind the Formula

HMG-CoA (3-Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A) reductase is an enzyme that is crucial in the production of cholesterol in your body. Tocotrienols, members of the vitamin E family, have been shown to degrade this enzyme and thus assist in the prevention of cholesterol production.Tocotrienols also reduce oxidative damage to the "bad" LDL cholesterol and inhibit blood platelet aggregation in the arteries. A study from the journal Atherosclerosis found that 100 mg of tocotrienols taken daily decreased LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels in individuals with high cholesterol2. Compared with doses of 25, 50 and 200 mg per day, 100 mg daily proved to be the optimal dose for controlling the risk of heart disease in subjects with high cholesterol.

Policosanol, the second ingredient in this powerful formulation, is isolated from rice bran and is approved as a treatment for cholesterol in two dozen countries3. Recent evidence suggests that policosanol supports healthy cholesterol levels by regulating the production of HMG-CoA reductase that helps to produce cholesterol in the body. At least 16 double-blind, placebo-controlled studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of policosanol for improving cholesterol levels. These studies involved a total of more than 1,500 people, and study lengths ranged from 6 weeks to 12 months. The combined results suggest that policosanol supplementation can reduce LDL ("bad") cholesterol by 21 to 29% and total cholesterol by a slightly lower amount.

Your cardiovascular system affects every single cell in your body by pumping blood to distribute oxygen, vital nutrients, hormones, antibodies and other molecules from other organs.

When this system is not properly cared for, it affects your whole body and can cause major problems.

Our bodies were made for motion and activity. A healthy, conditioned heart and vascular system is prepared to withstand the demands we place on ourselves and our bodies. Poor lifestyle choices such as an unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle and excess body weight coupled with high blood pressure or high cholesterol can alter the basic structure of the heart. The cardiovascular system is then no longer able to function properly.

Complications arise. . .

Atherosclerosis / coronary artery disease / hardening of the arteries - all common names describing a progressive condition caused by the buildup of fatty deposits (plaque) inside the arteries that supply blood to the heart. As these arteries narrow, the heart suffers because it is literally starved of oxygenated blood. As a result, the heart muscle weakens but the body still needs its continual flow of blood to function - so it will accommodate this by pumping harder. As atherosclerosis worsens, there is an increased risk for blood clots, angina (chest pain or chest discomfort), hypertension (high blood pressure) and ultimately a heart attack or stroke.

Heart Attack - also known as a myocardial infarction, results when a blood clot causes a major artery to become blocked, restricting the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart thus disabling it and shutting it down.

Stroke - one type of cerebral vascular accident that can occur as a result of a blood clot in an artery that supplies oxygenated blood to the brain. This restricted flow can cause damage to the brain.

The Markers of Heart Disease

Health Professionals use several "markers" when determining one''s risk of cardiovascular disease. The Heart Health System addresses several of these "markers" to provide a total approach to cardiovascular health.

High Cholesterol and Blood Lipid Levels - are one marker of heart disease. Your diet greatly affects your risk of heart disease and eating foods high in fat, including cholesterol, has a direct affect on cholesterol levels in your body - here''s why.

Once eaten, fat and cholesterol are absorbed from food in the intestine as well as being produced by the liver. These substances are carried in the blood by a protein called albumin and special particles known as lipoproteins to cells throughout the body. During transport, they are susceptible to oxidation by free radicals. As a result, oxidized cholesterol and other fats can damage blood vessel walls by causing lesions where plaque sticks and begin to build. The site can become mineralized and hard, eventually forming a blockage or it can remain soft and can rupture, precipitating clot formation. This is the formation of atherosclerosis.

Homocysteine levels - represent another marker of cardiovascular risk. Homocysteine is a toxic amino acid that, when found in high concentrations in the blood, is associated with a high risk of heart disease and stroke. According to some experts, homocysteine, as a marker for CVD, is as important as cholesterol or cigarette smoking. Homocysteine levels can become elevated as a result of smoking, high alcohol consumption, low levels of selected B-vitamins in the diet, a previous heart attack or stroke and is also found to be associated with increasing age and post-menopause in women.

C-reactive protein - is yet another marker of heart disease. It is an acute phase protein that increases during systemic inflammation, which occurs during the formation of atherosclerotic plaque. While this is a rather new method for testing heart disease risk, a growing number of studies have shown that high levels of C-reactive protein are positively associated with potential coronary events.

One System (60 Packets Per System/2 Packets Per Day; 30 Servings of LipiTrim Ultra, Essential Omega III and Tri-Active)

Heart Health TriActive

TriActive targets three major areas to protect against damage and enhance the performance of the body''s total cardiovascular system. This unique formula uses a combination of natural ingredients that have been shown to safely and effectively support the body''s ability to maintain optimal arterial function, healthy cholesterol levels and healthy homocysteine levels.

TriActive has been formulated using a combination of clinically proven ingredients that help support proper heart health.

Optimal Arterial Function

To help maintain arterial integrity, TriActive contains Garlic, a well-known cardio-protective supplement. It supports heart function by maintaining healthy blood flow. One study also suggests that the active ingredient in garlic, allicin, may also act on HMG-CoA reductase to reduce production of cholesterol.

The bioflavonoid content of Hawthorn Berry aids in the dilation of blood vessels, helps strengthen the heart muscle, and promotes the structural integrity of the arteries. Several studies have also shown that Hawthorn Berry is beneficial in maintaining proper heart health.

Healthy Cholesterol Levels

TriActive also contains several ingredients that affect fat and cholesterol levels. Beta-Sitosterol, a close relative of cholesterol, competes with cholesterol for absorption in the small intestine, thereby leading to reduced cholesterol absorption.

Cassia nomame supplies compounds that are inhibitors of intestinal lipases (enzymes that degrade fat) which lead to decreased fat absorption. Guggul extract maintains healthy cholesterol levels by acting in the intestine to promote excretion of bile acids and cholesterol from the body. Guggul extract has also been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation.

Healthy Homocysteine Levels

Homocysteine is an amino acid that, when found in high concentrations in the blood, is associated with a high risk of heart disease and stroke. Studies suggest that folic acid, vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 are critical in the process to convert homocysteine into a harmless, non-toxic amino acid. One study showed that folic acid, B12 and B6 reduced homocysteine levels by 50% over an 8-week period. B Vitamins have also been shown to aid in red blood cell formation, improve circulation and maintain healthy arteries.

Advanced Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10 With Vitamin E is an Advanced System For Cellular Maintenance. Co-Q10, a Multi-Purpose Nutrient You Should Know. A valuable supplement found in spinach, broccoli, nuts, meats and fish, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble nutrient that has a multitude of therapeutic benefits. At the cellular level, it serves to revitalize and energize the body''s cells and immune system and contributes to increased stamina and endurance by fueling the body''s energy production (adenosine triphosphate, ATP) cycle. CoQ10 is beneficial to the body''s cardio-vascular system, helping to protect and strengthen the heart, normalize high blood pressure without side effects in addition to enhancing mental alertness and brain activity for those with hypertension. The supplement has also been shown to bolster natural weight loss by speeding the body''s metabolism of fat and it can even serve to control, and sometimes reverse, periodontal disease.

An Advanced System For Cellular Maintenance

CoQ10 is a powerful antioxidant on its own and in combination with vitamin E. The challenge for most individuals is to include CoQ10 (as well as other nutrients necessary for the body to manufacture it) in their daily diet. As we age, it becomes harder for our bodies to synthesize CoQ10 and stress and poor eating habits contribute to this problem as well. Take the next step to help your body help itself to optimal health: Advanced Q-10 with Vitamin E.

What is Coenzyme Q10?

Coenzyme Q10 is actually a two-part compound that is composed of (1) a long, fat-soluble isoprenoid tail that anchors the molecule in the inner membrane of the mitochondria and (2) a quinone that is capable of accepting and transferring electrons through a portion of the respiratory chain. A coenzyme is a non-protein substance that helps enzymes carry out their metabolic function and is not consumed in the reaction. The "Q" stands for quinone and the "10" stands for the number of isoprenoid units in the tail portion of the molecule. Mammals generally have 10 isoprenoid units in the tail portion, but other non-mammalian species may have fewer units. Coenzyme Q10 is a critical biochemical link in the production of energy in the cell. Coenzyme Q10 is found in the cell membranes of all cells in our body, particularly in the inner mitochondrial membranes, and it is especially concentrated in highly active organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, spleen, and adrenal glands. The mitochondria produce large amounts of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which helps cells perform work.

Since the manufacture of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the mitochondria is known to generate many harmful oxygen radicals, coenzyme Q10 serves an antioxidant function in that location by neutralizing radicals. Coenzyme Q10 is also required by a key enzyme in the Kreb''s cycle (Citric Acid Cycle), which converts both carbohydrates and fat into usable energy for the cell.

Besides these functions within all cells, coenzyme Q10 also works with vitamin E outside of the cell when both compounds are dissolved in circulating low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles carrying cholesterol. These two fat-soluble antioxidants help to prevent the cholesterol from oxidizing. Oxidized cholesterol is highly toxic to the endothelial cells and the smooth muscle cells that comprise the blood vessels. Oxidized cholesterol can contribute significantly to arterial plaque formation and atherosclerosis.

What is the source of Coenzyme Q10?

While our livers produce small amounts of coenzyme Q10 and this small amount is distributed to the rest of the body, we get most of this compound from foods such as organ meats, muscle meats, fish, peanuts, spinach, soy, and nuts. In the past it was difficult and very expensive to isolate sufficient amounts of coenzyme Q10 from these food sources for the purpose of dietary supplementation. However, a Japanese company succeeded in synthesizing coenzyme Q10 in 1977, thus making an important nutrient available to the world.

While there is substantial debate about the nature and definition of coenzyme Q10 deficiency and its manifestations, it is well documented that individuals with congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, angina pectoris, and chronic gum disease or those who are obese have significantly lower tissue concentrations of coenzyme Q10. Other people at risk for coenzyme Q10 deficiency include cancer patients receiving the anti-cancer drug Adriamycin which can damage the heart and people taking cholesterol-lowering drugs of the HMG-coenzyme A reductase class. It has also been demonstrated that coenzyme Q10 concentrations in various tissues begin to decline as we age.

What is a safe and effective dose of supplemental Coenzyme Q10?

A variety of clinical studies has demonstrated that daily doses as low as 30 mg and as high as 300 mg of coenzyme Q10 are safe and can promote a healthier life. The circulating levels of coenzyme Q10 take about 60-90 days to reach steady state, depending on the dose taken.
